EVERYONE DESERVES GOOD BREAD

15/03/2011

We’re giving away free bread! We think everyone deserves a good honest loaf of bread. Hand-made, no preservatives, artificial colouring or flavouring, made the way generations past have been making it for years and years. That’s why we’re sharing our loaves with you.

We would love to create a bread revolution. We want to change the way people think about, feel about and consume bread and we believe that everyone deserves to be treated to delicious bread every day. To make truly ‘good’ bread you only need flour, water, salt and yeast. You don’t need preservatives, artificial colourings, flavourings and all that jazz so we don’t use them, preferring to use fresh, natural, healthy ingredients.

Good bread has character and every GAIL’s loaf is handmade to its own special recipe. GAIL’s breads are seriously ‘slow-dough’ and the most important tool in our bakery is the hands of the bakers. Each baker hand kneads the dough and looks after it while it proves for 48 hours, whereas industrial, plastic packed bread can take less than an hour to prove.

Like our bread, we handcraft each GAIL’s shop to be unique and fit into its local environment. We do have a number of stores, but we are against the “chain” mentality where each store looks exactly the same and the people are robots. We want our customers to relax and enjoy our shops and through this connection feel a sense of community.

As part of our bread revolution we’ll be giving out a free loaf of bread with every purchase made in our St John's Wood shop on Sunday 27th March so pop down and bag yourself a loaf.

JOIN OUR PARTY!

4/03/2011

Join us at GAIL’s Exmouth Market on 31st March from 5 - 9pm for our Bread Election party.

Our bakers have created 5 new handmade breads and we’d love you to tell us which one is the best and should go on our shelves.  Enjoy a glass of wine and some canapés from our new evening menu (on us of course) along with some fantastic tunes.

If you can’t make the party, you can still come and taste the delicious candidates at GAIL's Exmouth Market from 25th - 31st March and cast your vote.

The candidates are:

German Rye
Our version of this classic hand crafted bread is lusciously dark and is a perfect companion to smoked fish. Stoly anyone?

Oat & Bran
High-fibre bread packed with plenty of poppy seeds, sesame seeds and oats. This candidate ticks all the healthy boxes and is super-tasty too!

Caramelised Garlic
Hand made on timber boards, this bread is jewelled with whole, tangy caramelised garlic cloves. This candidate is delicious on its own, but a full-bodied glass of red wine wouldn’t hurt!

Old Fashioned Classic White Tin
Remember the days when sliced bread tasted wonderful? Like all GAIL’s breads, this is a handmade loaf with wholesome ingredients.  The best thing since….
